Configuring Brocade Silkworm 3. CCIE lab - 4. 28. Super. 64,   I made a couple  DB9 (technically DE9) cable adapters with to use for the Silkworm 3. I recently purchased and to no avail made any headway on console access. I don't want to go super overkill on the numerous scenarios I attempted to effect, however I will mention a few that did not work and ask for you advice on what perhaps I may have missed. Primarliy, I made two DB9 adapters. The first adapter had DB9 pin 2 going to RJ4.

Txd). Also, db. 9 pins 3, and 5 were straight- through connected to pins 3 and 5 respectively on the RJ4. The console pins were as follows: DB9 - RJ4. I connected this adapter to a straight through cable (cat. COM1 on the server. I went through baud rates up to 1. I also created two other straight through 2- > 2, 3- > 3, 5- > 5 adapters and with the same methods, could not get any response. Lastly, I swapped out some null- modem cable adapters on the server COM- port side, and vice- versa, and even used a secondary db.

USB..~still no joy. I'm at a loss. I've read everything I can on the pinouts, and all the adapters have good continuity checks using meter. My questions are..- (1) Which adapter above is correct . DB9 pin connected to pin 6 on RJ4. I use on the other side to connect to the COM port on the server? Question 2 is really where I'm stumped, and the reason is that the Tx. D, Rx. D, CTS, . etc, etc is not the same pins on the standard COM port..

I tried the null modem adapter, as well as the 2- 6 pin cross adapter. I hope this reads clear enough. I think one of the adapters noted above that I made should work, I'm just thinking I am going to have to make something custom on the COM port side to connect to that straight through cable now..??

Hello all, trying to revive a Brocade 2800 SAN switch. Admin password is unknown and irretrievable. Read in the Brocade message boards that internal serial port can be used to reset admin pw. Fine so far - dismantle the unit hook up cable to serial port and check.

Any ideas? In closing, I will say that I also have an access server which I use 3/6 swap, roll- over, and other cable combinations depending on the deive attached, so I am well adept at making cables.. I just have no idea what I am missing here. This sums up what I am asking: Silkworm 3.

Intro: Simple RJ45 DB9 Cisco console cable Hello everyone, I just bought my first cisco router (2610) and, in order to learn about it I decide to start a blog. BTW, I don’t like Brocade’s Installation Wizard (or whatever the name is) – it never worked for me most of the time. Here we go: Attach a crossover cable between the switch.

  • Connect your PC to Brocade devices through our db9 serial cable. Works with most Brocade devices. If you have a newer laptop, it may not have the 9-pin serial port, in which case you should purchase the USB Console Cable Kit found in this same SKU.
  • Reset a Brocade Silkworm switch to factory defaults through the serial console port. Things You'll Need DB9 serial console cable Microsoft Windows 7 computer with nine-pin serial port and Microsoft HyperTerminal installed Step 1 Plug the serial console cable.
